Hello

I was wondering if any of you have an experience with the following: before the application in the university I had a working permit. After receiving an acceptance letter in June of 2015, I submitted my documents in the university with the working permit visa (i did not know that I need to obtain the study permit). I think in graduate office they just missed that and I was accepted. I was thinking that I will change it in the next iteration of obtaining a new visa (my working permit is expiring in march of 2017). After one year of the study, I realized that I can not study without a study permit. Could you please advise me what to do in that situation? Thank you in advance.

You'll need to apply for a study permit asap. You must be truthful in your application that you have been studying in Canada without authorization. I would include a letter explaining that you thought you could study since you have a valid work permit (don't blame your school for this mistake - it was your responsibility to understand study requirements and obtain the right visa). You'll have to hope CIC is sympathetic and grants you a study permit. Don't do any further studying until you have an approved study permit.
