Hello,

After reading several sources of conflicting information, I would really appreciate the help of an expert who has claimed points for foreign freelance/self-employed work experience as well as help on the topic of work calculation (Continuity, 1 employer vs multiple employers etc.) as I want to apply through EE ASAP since the work experience will expire in 2018. I really need experienced clarification on this.

My work scenario is as below :

- September 2008 to April 2009 (8 months - 40 hrs/week)
Graphic Designer - NOC 5241 at Entertainment Company
Continuous
Proof - Reference letter, Work examples, Internal email communication.
Salary was paid in cash cheques with tax deducted at source - It is mentioned in the reference letter on the company letterhead
Is the proof enough?

- May 2009 to August 2010 (1 Year & 3 Months - 30 hrs/week)
Graphic Designer - NOC 5241
Discontinuous (e.g. 1 project in May, 0 projects in June, 3 projects in July etc.)
Freelance
Proof - Client Communication (Email), Bank Statement (Incoming money remittances), Work examples
Is this proof enough for freelance work?

- June 2016 to Current (March 2017) - 20hrs/week
International Sales Manager - NOC 0601
Proof - Salary slips & Reference Letter

My questions are :

Is the freelance proof as mentioned enough?
Will my 8 month + 1.3 year work experience count as a total of 2 years of work experience between 2008 and 2010?

This topic concerns me mainly due to the lack of clarity.
I would really appreciate any reliable help on this.

Thank you very very much in advance!

What did you do from September 2010 to May 2016?

The first job is continuous for 8 months and the system needs a continuity of at least 1 year to calculate points

If you were freelance, you would need to be registered as self-employed or the equivalent that is in your country. You would need reference letters from each client details the job duties, duration of the job, hours of work and remuneration. I think it will be in your contract as well. You can attach invoices. Again, this needs to be continuous so you would need to establish continuity for that

You have been working for the last 10 months for 20 hours a week. CIC considers a full time job as 30 hours or more. If you calculate that pro rata, it would say that it was equivalent to 5 months of full time work experience.

If any of these jobs were undertaken alongside Canadian education, it wont be considered. If it was alongside non-Canadian education then it would be considered.

"The following documents are mandatory for each work experience declared:

a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits; and
if the applicant is self-employed, articles of incorporation or other evidence of business ownership, evidence of self-employment income and documentation from third-party individuals indicating the service provided along with payment details (self-declared main duties or affidavits are not acceptable proof of self-employed work experience)."

Other than the proof that you need in order to claim self-employment work my question to you would be, do you have a year of full-time continuous work experience? If not, you'd be ineligible under the FSW program.
