Hi!!

I am planning to visit my friend living in Buffalo, NY and would like to get direct flight which is only possible to go Toronto and drive from there to US. I am Polish citizen living in the UK for 10 years now and I hold a US visitors 10 year visa, which expires in 2016. I am wondering if I need a visitors visa, or I could just get the transit visa, as I won't be in Canada for more the 48 hours. I do not hold biometric passport and I know if I did, then I would not require visa at all.

Please let me know if you are a valuable source or had similar experience.

Kind regards,
M.

"Whether you intend to visit Canada or simply transit on the way to another country, the requirements are the same. When you appear at a port of entry, you are requesting entry to Canada. In order to identify yourself to an immigration officer, you must arrive with a passport or travel document that will be valid for the duration of your planned stay in Canada."

"Citizens of Lithuania and Poland do not require temporary resident visas if they are holders of biometric passports (i.e. Polish and Lithuanian passports issued as of 28 August 2006) Citizens of Lithuania and Poland require temporary resident visa to visit Canada if they are holders of passports issued before 28 August 2006."

How to apply for a temporary resident visa

"If you are transiting to Canada and your flight will stop in Canada for 48 hours or less en route to another country you have to apply for a transit visa. The applicants must demonstrate to the visa officer that they have an onward ticket(s) and/or their travel arrangements i.e. exact flight booking showing the date(s) and hours of arrival and departure from Canada and a visa, if required, for their ultimate destination. There is no cost for a transit visa."
