First time applying visa to visit sister

This is my first time applying for a visa and i have observed that there are quite a lot of things to keep in mind. I am thinking to visit for a month or so.I am currently a student pursuing btech so i am dependent on my parents for financial support.I wanted to know
1. How recent the bank statements should be and what else i can provide with the bank statements with bank balance of about 1000CAD.
2. What should the invitation letter from my sister contain.
3.Is it fine to book dummy tickets as flight itinerary . If yes what should be the dates prior to submitting application.
4. Can I include any document from my college that would suggest that I’ll return back to my country after my vacations are over.
Please help me out with anything else that I’d be missing.

Few things any VO would look for sure

1. Purpose of travel
2. Travel History (if above is weak)
3. Home ties
4. Family Ties
5. Financial support for the applicant
6. Invitation Letter

1. How recent the bank statements should be and what else i can provide with the bank statements with bank balance of about 1000CAD. ----> Not enough as tickets alone would be more than that, and applicant has to show enough of his/her own expense during the trip (travel living etc).
2. What should the invitation letter from my sister contain. ----> The reason of invitation primarily
3.Is it fine to book dummy tickets as flight itinerary . If yes what should be the dates prior to submitting application. ----> You can reserve tickets but do not book it completely, just in case you have to cancel/defer.
4. Can I include any document from my college that would suggest that I’ll return back to my country after my vacations are over. ----> if you are single, which I am assuming you are, and young you would have to have overwhelming home ties to convince the VO.

For bank balance purpose i have a fixed deposit of about 15000C. I am thinking to provide it with the bank statements. Will it be alright then?

Fixed deposits will help but you still need to show that you have liquid cash to pay for all your travel expenses. In terms of ties you need to show reasons why you need to return like property, dependent family members, job, other commitments, etc. It will be quite hard to get a visa as a single young student.

The fixed deposit i am having is sweep in that means i can take out the money as per my requirements and that will lead to change in interest. So then is 2000CAD enough to show as bank balance?
