Hello all,

I finished my master's course on August 19 while waiting for my study permit extension to be processed. My understanding was that, if issued a new permit, it would be valid only until 90 days after the completion of my course, regardless of the date printed on the permit.

I got through to the Client Support Centre today, and the person I spoke to said that, because I finished under implied status, if IRCC process my permit, it will be valid until the date printed on the permit, not until completion date + 90 days (November 19) because they will not issue a permit that has already expired. I am worried, though, because the Client Support Centre often gives completely false information.

Has anyone else finished their course under implied status and then waited for a new study permit to apply for a PGWP? If so, were you allowed to work after receiving a new study permit (more than 90 days after completing your program) and applying for the PGWP?

As a side note, they messed up my previous permit and left off the condition stating I was eligible to work, despite no change in my circumstances (still a full-time international student in the same course). I sent it to be amended, but didn't get it back until after it had expired. I haven't been able to work for months now, and have no income apart from money sent from family back home, despite having a full-time job offer at a company working on a COVID-19 vaccine (that just received $18 million in federal grants, literally announced by Trudeau) where I have worked part-time for 2 years.

I'm also worried because I'm not sure when I technically lost my authorization to work, since I was working legally under implied status, then my study permit extension was approved, so I continued to work, but when it arrived, it was missing the condition. Even one person at the Client Support Centre said I was still allowed to work since it was just an error on the permit, but I received better advice stating I could not. So, I'm worried that my current application will be rejected because I engaged in unauthorized work, even though it was in an essential service during a pandemic and literally only unauthorized because of a mistake made by IRCC.
