Fingerprints

I got an email today requesting fingerprints for my brother who is in canada on TRV. He is a dependent on my family sponsorship file. Is it a normal procedure? How long it might take? Has anyone on family sponsorship ever got it done? Any input will be appreciated.

Does the email specifically ask you to provide a fingerprint card from your brother to the RCMP and/or CIC, or are you being asked for his police clearance from a country other than Canada, where his fingerprint card would [likely] need to be sent...because there's a big difference between the two.

No there is no mention of a fingerprint card. They just need RCMP clearance
