Recently I have received a letter from the CIC to let me have a electronic fingerprint sent to them. They asked for the fingerprint because they say I have a criminal offence or is under a probation order. However, none of these apply to me. I am very sure that I don't have any criminal record. The letter says "After reviewing the biographical information on your application form, there are questions in your case with regard to sections 21 and/or 22 of the Citizenship Act." Have this happened to anyone? I am very worried that why they say I have a criminal record when I really don't have one.

Try posting to the Citizenship section of the forum.

That is a standard form letter that everyone who receives a fingerprint request receives. It doesn't mean that you have a record. Just get the prints done you'll be fine.

What sections 21/22 are concerned with are exceptions to physical presence calculation in case the applicant has been imprisoned or paroled while in Canada for any reason, they don't necessarily concern criminal offenses. So rest assured they are not suspecting you of anything it's just a check.

Keep in mind they can't retain your finger prints for purposes other than verification. As a matter of fact, they will delete all of your biometrics after you become a citizen so that you'll be in the same status as other Canadians.

I got fingerprint request stating the same reason. I never had a fingerprint done before. I think because of my very common first name and last name they want to verify my identity through fingerprints. I don't have a criminal background , haven't even got a speeding ticket.

Can I ask you one question ? After you submitted your fingerprint did they just invited you to Test or they had some other questions as well ?
