Thanks for everyones' input so far...I'm wondering when your applying for spousal how much your finances and your partners matters in the equation?
I own my home but have been recently laid off from work with the possibility of not being called back...as I would be the sponsor is that looked at?
thanks in advance

Finances do not matter at all. You may not be on welfare or in the middle of bankruptcy, but beyond that they don't care.

Since you are not on welfare or in bankruptcy you are fine to sponsor and they will not be concerned with your job situation.
