Hi everyone!

So my boyfriend has finally received the email to come in for an interview in TWO DAYS! I am sponsoring him and this is where I need your help.

On the email it states : "If you were sponsored, please ensure that your sponsor attends the interview with you,

and brings government issued ID documents with photos establishing their identity."

I know this interview is to ask him a few questions. My problem is, I'm having some health issues and I cannot make it to the interview. I would much rather be there than in bed but I can't make it. I have read quite a few times ppl went without their sponsor due to them being out of town, working, sick etc and it didn't matter, they still got approved.

I called the immigration line today and the lady said I should be there. I called back because I forgot to ask another question, got a new agent and asked this person the same question which they said "for this interview it's not very important but if it's written in the email then maybe you should go. Or try to reschedule." Well I would love to reschedule but I don't know when I will be better.

I then spoke to my friend who use to work at Immigration Canada and she said, it all depends on the agent you get. Some do things differently.

I am so confused right now and stressed out.
My bf will go alone, hopefully he will not get denied because I am not there. That would be horrible after all this time.

WRONG! He is no longer your boyfriend; he is your Common-Law Partner. Remember that! ;)

Since it sounds like it was an Inland application, the sponsor is required to attend. This is why the email states that you must also attend.

You have to confirm that you still wish to sponsor and that you understand the 3 year financial obligation to look after him.

You should re-schedule if you're certain that you can't attend.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Oh...and congratulations!

Yes common law!! :)

Thank you for your response! I just spoke to my friend again and she said for him to go, worst that happens he will have to reschedule another appointment for me to be there but she did say again often sponsors are not there.

So we will go with that plan .. I hope it's ok because I won't be able to make it for months. :( I do have medical letters for them as well.

Actually, the worst that can happen is that they cancel his app.

You are required to be there. If you can't make it, you need to contact CIC and ask to reschedule; submit your medical documents as proof.

Ok. I'm going to call again in the am to reschedule..I hope it's ok to wait atleast a month or two. Ugh this is horrible, you wait and wait and the worst time they can contact you, they do! Funny how life works sometimes.

It's a bit frustrating to be told a bunch of different things

Rescheduling really is your only option.

FWIW, the landing appointment/interview is quite quick [usually less than 15 minutes total].

It's odd, but for an Outland applicant, it doesn't seem to be a mandatory requirement for the sponsor to attend the landing. I suppose it's because CIC doesn't expect the sponsor to leave Canada and then return (with the applicant), since there would be no other way to arrive at the CBSA desk if the sponsor is already in Canada.

Hey guys

Any experience in rescheduling the landing interview? Is it easy to do? Do they ask a lot of questions?

I haven't, no, but the interview is really only a question or 3 to ensure the material facts of the application are still valid. Eg: no criminal convictions, no dependants that were not mentioned, etc. From what I have heard, it's not tough to reschedule the landing interview.
