FILLING OUT IMM1344e... is who's being sponsored considered a "cosigner"?

Hello,

-I am US citizen from birth and wife is Canadian citizen from birth.

-We are filling out her sponsorship paperwork going along with Checklist imm5533e.

-My wife is filling out form IMM1344e (first item in checklist) and are at the part where it has to be filled out relating to details about "cosigner".

- I recall reading somewhere (im sorry I get confused fast with all the links and paperwork) that the cosigner IS the spouse (?). It requires cosigner details to move forward with pdf.

-When she gets to the part "Cosigner personal details" the "Status in Canada" part allows for only "Canadian citizen by birth, Canadian citizen by descent, naturalized Canadian citizen, or permanent resident"... We are applying for sponsorship so that we CAN get me to be a permanent resident (!)

What the heck?

Any clarity greatly appreciated. I know this may be simple question we just arent understanding.
