Hello,

Me and my fiance are planning on applying for family sponsorship under common-law. Our 12 months of living together (we are living together for 2 years but have no proof for it...) that we can prove will be in the beginning of November. However, my fiance has to leave to Madagascar for the Masters field work for 6 months in August. It means that we wont be able to satisfy the 12 months requirement? Also, does that mean I have to move to Madagascar because that would be financially unfeasible.
Thank you for your help.

Regards,
Karolis

Unfortunately, that will negate the time that you have lived together and you will need to start over when he returns...unless you do accompany him to Madagascar and remain there with him until your 1 year anniversary of cohabiting.

Can I return to Canada after we meet 12 months in Madagascar and apply for the sponsorship class then while being separated for another 4 months?

Yes, but depending on what the processing times are next November, it might be faster to wait for him to return and then submit an Inland application ~ Feb 2017.

Since processing times change often, it's remotely possible that by then, an Inland application would be processed faster than his Outland application.

It seems that outland applications are way faster but who knows what its gonna be in the future. Thank you for your help. Sometimes it gets really confusing to find an answer on the internet..
