Hello Everyone,

Looking for some advice as my wedding in Fiji has been halted since the beginning of the pandemic.

My fiancé is born and residing in Fiji, due to covid/borders and work I'm not able to travel anytime soon. Would it be possible for her to come here on a work permit? She has post secondary education and has over 5 years of experience as a administrative assistant.

She needs to find an employer and then a job offer. The employer has to file for a LMIA, pay $1K and prove no Canadian or PR can do the job. Then with a positive LMIA, she applies for a closed work permit. The process can take up to a year or longer.

Is it possible right now with the covid situation? The Canadian government site says it's only for essential jobs, or did I not read properly?

No but the employer needs to apply for a LMIA and prove that they couldn’t hire a Canadian or PR. The process is long and few employers are willing to wait a year and pay $1k.

Okay sounds good I'll have her apply for jobs here and hope for the best. Thank you for your help.

It would be extremely rare to find an employer who even acknowledges an application arriving from Fiji for an administration job.
