Hi everyone,
Im a 27 year Australian, currently looking at applying for EE through the FSTP this year.
I am just looking for any advice from people on here that have been through this program successfully or anyone that could give me information to help me get through the initial eligibility stage correctly.
I have completed the required hours and Finished an Apprenticeship in Landscape Horticulture to challenge the red seal exam (NOC 2225) in British columbia and gain a Certificate of Qualification ( which i am confident I can pass).
I have done the mandatory English Proficiency exam from CELPIP when i was in Canada in october 2017 at the end of my open work permit. I scored 10 speaking, 8 writing, 8 listening, 8 reading.
I have worked 2 years in the trade in the past 5 years and these 2 years of work were as a supervisor (NOC8255).
I have around 15-16k in funds that will be available when i apply and enter Canada if successful.
I do not have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
Do i need to work in this trade to remain in Canada if granted?
Thanks in advance!

No, you're free to work in whichever field you want.

There is a question in the profile stage:
"Date Ryan James Meres first became qualified to practice in this occupation

If the "primary occupation" is:
  • a qualified trade (four-digit code begins with 632, 633, 72, 73, 82, 92), this is the date they became qualified to practice on their own in Canada. (For example, when they moved from apprentice to being a licensed tradesperson.)
  • any other job, this is the date they first obtained the minimum education or training stated in the NOC description. (Note: if the NOC only states high school, this is the date they graduated.)",
Would i answer the question for the date that i received my red seal in Canada or the date that i became qualified as a tradesperson in Australia?

So... this is a strange one... you might want to ask this of people who have more experience with the FST program, but as far as I can tell, the CoQ you are proposing will not benefit you, since the CoQ does not align with one of the eligible "skilled trades." NOC 2225 is not on the list of eligible skilled trades.

And, while NOC 8255 is on the "list" and you have experience, the qualification would have to align with the NOC, and the NOC 2225 is specifically excluded from NOC 8255. (I recognize that 8255 builds on 2225, but I still am not sure that you will be able to use a 2225 qualification for this program).

This is not to say that the Red Seal would not benefit you in any way, but likely only if you wanted to work in that occupation - it might help you find an employer. But I don't think it will help you in lieu of the job offer from a Canadian employer (under the FST program).

I saw elsewhere that you have worked in Canada under an IEC permit - under which NOC(s) did you gain experience?

My suggestion, if possible, would be to submit your education for the ECA and assess your eligibility under the FSW program...

Thanks for that, i have just looked at the NOC codes again and now understand what your saying thanks for pointing that out,
i don't understand how they can exclude NOC 2225 from the NOC 8255, as you need to have done an apprenticeship and gained experience in the trade e.g. 4 year of experience as an apprentice, gain the red seal qualification to be able to supervise and manage companies and day to day operations. How can you gain the NOC 8255 (Thats in the same Skill Level B) if there are no courses or Trades to get the higher qualification.
It just seems like they are making it way too hard for Trades people to get through this program.
In regards to your second question, when i was in canada on the IEC open work permit i was working as a building maintenance worker for a back country ski lodge from April 2016 - October2017, I'm guessing the NOC for that position is 6733 or 7611 which are both skill level D positions, does this count as experience?.
I have done a lot of calculations with the CRS Calculator and I'm sitting around 250 points which is way to low to even try through FSW.
I have already done a ECA through WES for my education and trade. As i unfortunately found out after i submitted it and paid the $250 and $150 for replacement certificates and transcripts they do not accept Trades qualifications as they are studied through vocational institutions.
So the thing that came out of that report was my Year 10 certificate being assessed, that is not an equivalent to any secondary education in Canada.

I understand your frustration! Don't give up yet. I realize you are interested in BC, but I'm going to suggest contacting Ontario Immigration with these questions: http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/pnp/OI_PNPTRADES.html

This is because the province has a skilled trades program that mirrors the Fed program, AND because you can earn a qualification at the managerial level in Ontario (remember, trades are regulated at the provincial level), even though it is not offered through the Red Seal program. If they suggest that you can use the Red Seal cert from 2225 as a qualification for NOC 8255, then you might be more confident moving forward.

This is disconnect between the qualification and the NOC is not the norm for the skilled trades - there is usually a very direct correspondence between the NOC and the qualification. I should clarify tho that that is true where trade certification is MANDATORY - this is not the case for all trades, and in your trade (2225) it is not mandatory, per the NOC:

  • "Trade certification for landscape horticulturists is available, but voluntary, in all provinces."

Well, unfortunately, they do not count as "skilled" experience, so you cannot use it...

This is an ongoing frustration for many people... I believe IQAS used to assess vocational ed, but I am not certain if they still do - you would have to contact them.

I dont understand the Pnp application process.
I thought that you can only go through Pnp if you have a valid job offer in Canada( which will be virtually impossible from Australia), and have been working for a company for a certain amount of time? and the company would have to nominate you?

Please correct me I'm considering to apply skilled trades worker

When I look for job offer in Job bank it requires my express entry profile number
But if I create my express entry profile I must have a valid job offer form 2 employer please advice me
