I was under the impression, based on what I've read, that while you are technically refused entry into the US, nothing was entered into their system, and was more like a US border agent just making it easier for you. I don't see why you would have to ever say you were refused entry if it's not ever dealt with in a formal way that left mark on your "record", so to speak. I mention this because I was thinking about flagpoling to meet my husband at Peace Bridge when he lands so I can be there with him and I've never heard anyone say anything to this effect before.

The other option, of course, is to just spend a couple hours in the states before coming back across to Canada.
I'm hoping you're right in regards to the flagpoling. If we do end up having to do that, I will ask if we need to mention it in future trips. The research i've done on it seems pretty conflicting, but even having to mention it, they would have why you were refused in the systems and likely would not be a big deal. Unfortunately for us, my wife is not visa-exempt from the USA and isn't allowed to enter officially.

LANDED!

Went to Carway land border this morning and landed without problem. However, the US border security made it VERY clear that we need to declare this refusal if requested in the future, if questioned.

Also, on the Canadian side they mentioned that unless someone is visa-free to Canada or has a Immigrant Visa in their passport that is close to expire, it is strongly recommended to not use the flagpoling method. When I asked the reasons why, he said that several times a week, someone tries to do this, and something is not in order with their paperwork, or even something that was a mistake made on the CIC end on the computer they put the officer in a difficult position as the person cannot enter the USA and doesn't have legal status in Canada, something obviously everyone wants to avoid. I let him know that CIC told us to go to the border to do this, as we didnt have time to book an appointment in Calgary. To this, he replied that they are not CIC so if there is some kind of issue on the CIC end he cant do anything about it...... He was friendly but firm the entire time.

Seems like a bit of a internal disagreement between the two government entities, but might be good to know for others that they will ask why you are doing it with this method.

Ok!

I am landing on February 2nd! Finally!

I'm getting ready to fill out my B4 forms....how exactly do those work? Does everything go on one form or does the stuff I don't have that is coming later go on a separate form?

Second, do I get my SIN when I land or do I have to go to a government office to get that?

Any other info would be great. I'm stoked!

you need 2 forms, 1 for items you are bringing with you and 1 for "goods to follow".

generally, the SIN# needs to be done at a service canada location near you. some airports have kiosks where you can sign up for one after landing, but only a select few airports (and specific terminals) actually let you do this. it's pretty easy to do at service canada, and won't take very long. all you need is your passport and COPR.

my husband landed last thursday with my stepkids. they drove here in the worst weather, it took 2 hours to do the landing process because the computer system had apparently just been updated to a new OS and weren't working properly. CBSA had sent a person, who had tried to land earlier in the day, away and told them to come back later because of it... but my husband was able to get through after a long wait. we did all the stuff required to make him an ontario resident yesterday - driver's license, OHIP, SIN...it was all really easy and everyone was really nice to him. the kids have started school no problem...so knock on wood, but so far this is not as terrible as I was assuming it would be! ha!

Its good to See that most Feb of 214 applicants shares their experreinces on their journey in Canada, Happy to see that. In my case i think I am one of those very few who got their applications put on pending. Ive been waiting for any results of my applications and its killing me. so far they asked me to have my remed, PPR,Appendix A. New NBI (police clearance) and Pay the Landing fee or rprf..

This is still frustrating

Success! Here's the update on our application:

Our file went to "Decision Made" March 30. The CoPR was dated April 1, the cover letter was dated April 2, we were away all of this week. It was postage metered with an April 7 date and it was waiting in our mailbox in Gatineau when we got back home last night, the evening of April 10. We will be going to the border Saturday night (tonight) for the "landing" procedure.

I'll be writing a summary soon of why our application took so long. It was mostly our fault.

To cute2beblue2: We were about at the stage you were at the end of November when we sent in the last of a list like you give. It took from then till now. More detail will come when I get a chance.
