Hi all,

I am currently living with my husband in Canada on a visitor visa and filing an Outland application via the Nairobi (Kenya) VO. I am aware that I have to provide FBI fingerprints from any Country I lived in for 6 or more months since the age of 18. In my case, that would be the U.S.

However, do I also have to provide FBI clearance for Canada since I have been here for over 6 months when I send in my application? I am a little confused because while I am not a "resident" in Canada, I am living in Canada as a visitor

Please advise. Thank you!

FBI Clearance is ONLY for the USA. The FBI has nothing to do with any other country's police clearance.

No - you do not need to submit a police check for Canada, they do their own background check with in Canada when you submit your application.

Just follow these steps to get your USA FBI clearance.

From the guide:

These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

So no, you do not need to provide a police clearance certificate for Canada. CIC will do their own checks.

No. There is no FBI PCC for Canada. CIC may request your fingerprints for an RCMP check, but unless they request this, don't bother having them taken.

Do you not also need your police clearance from your home country? Were you not living there at any time after age 18?

Hello all,

I definitely overlooked the part where CIC will perform their own check so thank you for pointing that out.

After I turned 18, I was only in Kenya for about 4 months before I moved to the U.S and have never been back for more than 6 months at a time so I am assuming I do not have to provide clearance from Kenya? Please correct my if I am wrong.

I know you asked Ponga :) but I figured I'd help you out

Like Andrew quoted from the guide:

"These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18."

It is only when you lived there for six consecutive months :)
