Hi,

I am sponsoring my wife, who is a US citizen, for permanent residency in Canada. We have all the pertinent documents ready except for the FBI background check. My wife has submitted her fingerprints to the FBI for the background check twice. But on both occasions, she was notified that her prints were not legible (they were done at a police station). We have been waiting for four months for this certificate now.

My questions are:
can we send our documents to Canada Immigration without the certificate for now? I am worried that if we wait too long, her other supporting documents will become too old such as her medical check up. If that happens, she has to take the test again (another $500....).

Has anyone had a similar experience with getting the background checks? Is there any way to expedite it?

Thanks

Yes - you can send the application without the FBI cert. Include a letter letting CIC know that you are working on getting the cert and will send it once it's available.

$500 for the medical? :/ I'm sponsoring my US citizen wife (working on the paperwork) and had no idea it would be THAT expensive. I thought $200 tops. These costs are adding up FAST! :(

It depends on where you are. In Calgary, I paid $180 for the exam, $49 for x-ray, and $45 for bloodwork.

She'll be coming from VA, USA so she'll be getting her medical done there. It's just too bad we didn't finally make our decision until the day before she left to go back to the US or we could have saved a bunch of money doing it here in SK apparently :(
