My father landed in Canada on PR in 1993. He came by himself and not with family. He left soon after back to his home country India. He never renewed or renounced his PR.

I'm his daughter and I moved to Canada 5 years back and I'm now a Canadian citizenship. I plan to sponsor my parents for super Visa.

- Will my father need to renounce his PR that he had in 1993 to apply for super Visa.
- Can the renounciation and the super Visa be applied together?
- what is the timeline for the renounciation to be processed?

Thanks!

If your father has never renounced his PR status, he is still considered a permanent resident. He cannot apply for a visa if he is a permanent resident.

He must renounce PR prior to applying for a visa. I am unsure of the current processing times for this, but expect a few weeks at least.

If your father has or can obtain a US visa, another option is to attempt entry via the US land border - he would have to rely on humanitarian and compassionate reasons if he has them, but given the long absence and the non-existence establishment, they would have to be very compelling. So probably not a viable option, but just mentioning for completeness.
