Doc's Request.
ITA recived 1 March 2017
Hi,

Received ITA on 1st March. My uncle (mother's brother) is a Canadian. Are the following documents enough for meeting family member proof of status:

- Canadian passport copy
- Employment letter
- Bank assessment letter
- Tax returns 2016
- Citizenship card
- Driving license

Thanks :)

You need to show proof of relationship - example your uncle's birth certificate and one of your parents birth certificate to show that they had the same parents.

Thanks xpressentry!

but wouldn't those documents come under "proof of relationship?"

are the listed documents enough to show his status as a Canadian citizen?

These documents prove he is living in Canada - but they don't prove he is related to you. So you need a few additional documents to prove you are related.

What you described is documents for proof of status for which can show his tax assessment and/or latest utility bill with his name at his address which shows that he is living there.

But, for proof of relationship combine these into one PDF

1. Your passport front and back page showing your father's name
2. Your father's passport front and back page showing your grandfather name.
3. Your uncle's passport front and back page showing your grandfather name.

See, if it was a UK applicant this might be harder as parents details aren't included anywhere in passports. The only way relationship could be proven is via birth certificates.

Possible. Not aware of that. But if assuming OP does have parents details in passport he can go ahead with this. It is another - and in my opinion - easier procedure to go with if he can

That's why I mentioned birth certificate. Many passports dont list parents and spouse names.

He is my mother's brother. I have got the following documents:

- mother's marriage certificate mentioning her father's name
- uncle's pakistan passport copy mentioning his father's name (though the document expired in 2015)
- succession certificate due to the death of their father (issued by a local court).

are these enough to show the relation?

Ok,

Proof would be:
Document showing your name and mothers name
Document showing your mother and her parents names
Document showing your uncle and his parents names

That's it.

Possible. I am assuming your uncle's canadian passport doesn't show parents right which is why you're suggesting his expired Pakistani one? The documents you mentioned should work. Just explain in a letter of explanation why you used your uncle's old pakistani passport (because it had details of his parents and that he is a Canadian passport holder now which doesn't have those details).

Also a document showing proof that your mother is your mother - does your passport have her name?

Your uncle's pakistan passport mentioning the father's name is an expired document. CIC may not accept it.
A succession certificate that explicitly mentions that your mother and uncle have the same parents could be helpful but I'm not sure it would be accepted as succession certificates do not mention the relationship. A will is more likely to mention it.

Why. Would they ask for this ? I though no points yet for relatives or siblings etc.

They help an applicant's eligibility under the FSW program (5 points be above the required 67/100)
