Hi, This might be a simple question, but seems we are a little confused by this. So I am Canadian and living in Canada. I want to sponsor my husband through Family class: he has been living in Canada since 2006 on student permit, and is still living here. We are applying to the Seattle office, which says fee payments can only be made through money orders and bank drafts. Do we still need to request a IMM 5401 form and attach it to the application??

Would really appreciate if someone could clear this up for us!

As you are living in Canada, you can pay the fees online on www.cic.gc.ca website thru credit card or pay at the bank and submit the receipt you get from the bank or thru online payment with the application. This should be fine....good luck

Please see the below link for more information of payment of fees:

Hi thanks for the reply, but doesnt the website say "if you are applying to an office outside Canada, you cannot pay online.?"

ye - it does say that - but in your case, you will first send your application to Mississauga, and then they will send it to ... Ottawa actually, because the Buffalo office that used to handle US applicants is now closed - so all go to Ottawa, then maybe to a satellite office.

Confusing isn't it? but for your case - you can pay online, as the first office that you will send your application to is in Canada.
Good luck,
Sweden
