Hello,

We are currently working on my husbands family sponsorship who is from Kingston, Ja. Our question is this, for the Details of family members in the application for permanent residency do we put his entire family(mother, aunt, brother, etc.) or should he only mention his wife and his daughter.

Much thanks for the help.

The two of you need to go back and carefully read through both the Sponsor's and the Applicant's instruction manual. This is all covered there.

First of all, you would not be applying for permanent status because you are the sponsor - so you would not be listed on the application forms. And any of your children who are already Canadian citizens or permanent residents would not be listed either. The only people listed are those eligible to be sponsored by you - and that is your husband and any of his dependent children from a previous relationship. You cannot sponsor his mother, aunt, brother, sister, etc., so they are not to be included on the immigration application forms.

There is one form, however, where he will list his parents and siblings, as well as you and any children the two of you have together, or that you may have from a previous relationship, and that he may have from a previous relationship - and that is form IMM5406 (Additional Family Information). That does not mean that you, your children, his parents or his siblings are being sponsored (obviously) or that any person on that form needs to complete a medical exam or submit pictures. It is simply used to declare family members that he may one day be eligible to sponsor, once he is a PR.

RobsLuv is correct, you would only mention his relatives (sisters, brothers and parents) on that form, along with any children he had from a previous relationship.

It can be confusing to figure out when they use "family" to mean wife and children in one place, and in the other parents and siblings, that's why it's important to read the forms correctly so you figure out what is required where.

Also, please come over and join us at the Kingston, Jamaica thread. Those of us dealing with KG currently and in the past offer advice and encouragement to each other. I keep the updates for that group, would be happy to add you. :)

Hope to see you there!

There is a place to mention the applicant's parents' date of decease if they have passed away; other than that, I don't think there is anyone else that it matters for.
