Extending visitor visa

Hi there,

I came to Canada and married my Canadian wife last month. We are just about to submit our application for perm residence and I will be applying outland through London.

I am here on a Visitor visa that expires in october, my application will not be complete by then so I would like to extend my Visitor Visa when it expires in october. Can anyone suggest when would be a good time to apply to have this extended.. Should I do this before i submit my application for perm residence or just wait until closer to the deadline?
