Hello,
Just wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to extend my stay while waiting for permanent residency to come through. I am here on a 1 year under 35 Work/holiday visa from Ireland, with my Canadian wife, and we are now deciding to apply for my permanent residency. My current visa runs out next Sept, so there is a good chance that is not enough time and I don't want to lose my brand new job. It says right on the visa in my passport that there is no extension possible, but surely there has to be a way.??? Any advice or suggestions out there? Thanks very much!!

PMM just advised me of this. Perhaps it will help you. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=7&menu=L

Hi,

Usually, next to the WHP, there's a second program called Young Professionals. It's just as easy to get as a WHP, but it's not an open work permit. So you need to have a job offer. Disadvantage is that you can't change employer or the type of work you do at your employer (give a very global description of your job). I think that even salary is fixed with this, but I'm not sure about that.

It's not the best thing ever, but it allows you to stay up till you receive your open work permit at sponsorship approval.

Second option is continuing under implied status, so you can change jobs if you'd like. The downside is that you can't exit Canada, come back and resume working (implied status will be gone upon re-entry).
