Extending International Experience Canada visa?

Hi guys.

I am currently in Canada on an International Experience Canada visa, for 2 years (it will be running out in a few months)

When i got the visa, it was for 4 years but in my country I could only get health insurance for a max of 2 years, so at immigration in Canada they could only allow me to have 2 years.

If i get another 2 years of health insurance, is it possible to extend the visa for the full 4 years the original length of the visa?

Where did you ever read that a UK IEC was for 4 years given the maximum I have ever seen is 2 years.

The POE letter has often carried a statement that holders of temporary work permits can work for a maximum of 4 years but that was not implying an IEC would be issued for 4 years just that there was a limit for any temp worker to work for upto 4 years with the right permits, not specific to IEC.

Anyway bottom line is an IEC work permit once issued cannot be extended.

The actual letter received was for 4 years, but as stated by immigration upon arrival i could only have 2 years due to the insurance I had.

Something about this doesn't make sense IEC has never been more than 2 years.

The POE letter that present to CBSA just has a validity date on it by which time someone must enter the country it does not say how long a permit should be issued for that information is on the system. POE letters also in some instances have wording that says someone on a temp work permit can only work for a maximum of 4 years but that is a generic statement applying to people who have accumulated 4 years working in the country and does not authorise anyone especially an IEC participant to get 4 years.

CBSA officers can at times be inconsistent in how they issue work permits especially IEC ones and also at times may give someone a response they want to hear but not what the actual guidelines are.

If you are convinced you should be able to extend an IEC to 4 years then by all means try, just never ever heard of a 4 year IEC on a single participation.
