Express Entry Occupation

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, and planning to apply for federal skilled worker through express entry. I have a concern about my occupation.

I have a chem phd degree and worked as a chemist for three years. I plan to get into the pool later this year. The three years experiences will be used as my primary work experience. I am making a career change to work for an IT consultant soon. I was wondering whether my IT consultant position would bring up any problem, at any stage of my application. Because my upcoming job is not related to my education and previous work experiences. I appreciate any comments you can give.

Another question:

If I claimed the points of my previous work experience, do I still have to request a reference letter from my future employer? Any comment is highly appreciated.
