Hi there. I am applying for residence in Canada under the family class, specifically spousal sponsorship. I have a police certificate to include with my application, but it was issued in April. We will likely be submitting our application in mid-January. Does anyone know for certain how long a police certificate (from the U.S.) is good for? Can I submit as planned or do I need a fresher police cert?

Does anyone know somewhere this is specified by IRCC clearly?

Just a head up, police certificates validity depends on the application type you are sending.

If you check this comment in the link below, it has a quote from IRCC's complete guide (from a year ago) that says the police certificate is usually valid for 1 year. It seems to me that IRCC have since removed this from the guide, and in my quick search I couldn't find what they replaced it with (if they replaced it with anything at all). IRCC will ask for an updated one if they need it.

It's your call, but if you can get a new one before mid-January, I would do that just for peace of mind.

To add, you will also see others saying it's valid for 6 months.

So better be on the safe side and get a new one.
