Hi,

I am helping my maternal uncle and maternal aunt apply for a visit Visa from Sri Lanka for two weeks to Canada. The last time we sent them an invitation was 8 years ago for my wedding and they both got rejected. This time I will be inviting them to attend my masters graduation ceremony and noted in my letter of invitation that they were my early caregivers when I lived in Sri Lanka. Both of them have their children and spouses in Sri Lanka, are employed, own property and have liquid cash in their bank accounts.

Can someone tell me how much money needs to be shown in the bank and how to strengthen their application please. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!

How long a visit? The funds required depends on that.

Also, have they traveled anywhere in the past 8 years?

My personal feeling is that since they have strong ties to Sri Lanka (the spouses and children, property, jobs etc), and presumably in the past 8 years have not tried to go to any other country or if they did, they returned without overstaying, they ought to be allowed in.

Though of course it's impossible to say for sure. Do you know why they were rejected eight years ago? Was it for lack of funds, or lack of family ties? Or something else (were they in the Sri Lankan armed forces, for example?)

Thank you @21Goose. They are applying for a stay of 2 weeks- how much funds should they show? They have only visited India in the last 8 years and have gone back home.

This is the reason they had on their letter. "You have not satisfied to meet regulation 179 that you will leave Canada at the end of your temporary stay. In reaching this decision I considered your ties to country of residence/ citizenship against factors that might motivate you to stay in Canada".

I checked with a lawyer after their refusal and she said a few months prior to their application there was still civil unrest after the war in Sri Lanka and that there were high rates of refugee applications.

Considering the country situation has changed. Would an affidavit strengthen their case? They are also showing valuation of property, funds, employment letters. Alongside this my aunt is showing a letter from the doctor that indicates her daughter's delivery date for her pregnancy, she will be caring for her daughter and grandson in June. Further to this, I've included a confirmation of my graduation from my university. My dad did the invitation letter as his income is higher (T4 included), I am currently a student so I provided a supplementary invitation letter as well.

Really appreciate your input.

I think this is a strong application that has a good chance of getting approved. As you said, Sri Lanka’s political situation is not the same as it was 8 years ago, and your aunt and uncle can easily demonstrate strong ties to the home.

An affidavit makes little difference. If IRCC isn’t convinced by all the existing documentation you’ve enumerated, they are unlikely to be swayed by the affidavit. It doesn’t really mean anything. Personally, I’d be ok with the application as is.

It’s impossible to say for sure, of course, but I can’t see a reason for denial.

Thank you so much @21Goose. One final question how much funds is considered acceptable for two weeks?

I'd say anywhere from $200-300 per person a day should be more than enough. Split the difference at $250 for 21 days and you get $10,500 (or $5250 each). This is for Toronto, so any other city should be cheaper.

I have applied TRV for one of my friends to stay 20 days here, She has her own business, is a teacher and a PhD student, and wanted to come alone as husband couldn't accompany her but they refused her request and I really don't understand with all of these things how officer mentioned that he is not sure if she is going back to the country or not. I hope the accept the request as its OK I think but always something strange can happen

forgot to mention that her bank statement was around 15,000 CAD

Thank you so so much for all your help. I really appreciate it!
