Exchanging a foreign Licence for an Ontario Licence!!

Applicants from Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Vermont must provide a driving abstract dated within 6 months) indicating the date the licence was first issued. The driving abstract must be an original; fax and photocopies are not acceptable.


US IRE (Interprovincial Record Exchange) search is mandatory for all other applicants and may present a delay in processing an exchange if a successful search is not completed. It is therefore recommended that you obtain a driving record (dated within six months of your application and indicating the date the licence was first issued) to prevent any delays in processing. Canadian Driving licence

Hi all I just need help ..
I got my first driving licence from Alberta with no problems after 1 year I lost it and I got another one easily.
Then I moved to live in the UK I surnderred my canadian licence to get the uk one.
Then after one year i returned back to canada Manitoba and found my lost canadian driving licence in my old staff
I was trying to get manitoba driving licence so i surnder my canadian one ( the one that i thought i lost it) but I kept mY uk one.
Now I am wating for them to send me manitoba driving licence.
I am not sure will i face any problems to get my manitoba DL?

Sounds like it's in the mail? As long as you've given them a valid address that you are residing at, it will reach you I'm sure... Hang tight and use the permit they would have issued you until it does...

I am not from one of the states requiring an abstract yet they are making me get one anyway.

Ontario is rather particular and the biggest trouble is actually getting them to do it properly. I've had DLs recently in both NE and KS; it took NE a few tries and I am waiting on the last one today. Hopefully they get it right this time; fortunately they've acted very quickly and I have had a helpful person to correspond with.

KS I can't even get through to speak to someone after trying several times. Nor have they replied to any of my e-mails, even though they give out the address for general help. I sent a generic clearance request outlining exactly what I need with a cheque (NE didn't charge!) and am still waiting. (Its been just under 2 weeks).

It is SUCH a shame they won't accept the records you can print off from their websites. They have the exact info, but I guess they can be altered rather easily. I'm sure I'll get it right eventually, my biggest concern is that I can't register my car until I get my Ontario DL (insurance). I did all the tests for my car and the safety certificate only lasts for 36 days - and I've already lost a week. I really, REALLY don't want to have to pay to do that again.

For anyone moving to Ontario thinking they may be nearish to PPR perhaps try and get your correct documents NOW. Its a huge pain to try and do from Canada and really taking more energy than I thought. Its good for 6 months anyway!
