Hi all, i recently got PR and just wanted to share my experience of the application process and landing interview.
I met my wife in 2016 while i was on holiday from England (shes a Canadian citizen and im a British citizen) and after about 18 months of a long distance relationship and multiple trips for us both we decided that one had to make the sacrifice and move, it was me who made the move, it just made more sence since she had a way better job than me (shes a smart egg)
After me living in canada for 5 months we married, a big wedding with lots of guests (and pics for evidence).
Shortly after the wedding i had to return home as my status was about to expire, so i flew home for 1 week then flew back to canada...i was so nervous about being let back in, arrived at immagration answered a few questions then got sent through to a secondary interview room ( im absolutely shi**ing my pants at this point) got called up and met the nicest cbsa officer iv ever encountered, he asked a few questions and asked if was married ect and if i planned to apply for PR, i told him i was but i was worried that it could take longer than the 6 months i was allowed to stay in canada, he wrote something in my passport and sent me on my way with an "all good, enjoy your trip" i got outside and check my passport, the cbsa officer had given me a stamp and permission to stay for 11 months, i couldnt believe it, he actually gave me more time to apply for PR.
So i applied under the family sponsorship programme.
*it took seven weeks for ircc to acknowledge they recieved our application*
*then a few more for them to start processing it*
They started processing our application in mid april, end of june i went for my medical that involved...
1. Urine test
2. blood test
3. Eye test
4. Blood pressure test
5. Chest xray
6. General health questions
There is nothing to fear about this test, i went to ajax for mine and they were super friendly.
The end of july i recieved notification that my application was complete (DM =decision made) and that the etobecoke office would contact me to arrange the finalization interview (im back to shi**ing my pants, that word *interview*) 1 week later i recieve my landing interview appointment scheduled for 1 weeks time.
We drove down to etobecoke and parked in the Tims just up the road, we arrived 30 mins before our appointment at 1pm, the place is packed out, we show our invitation letter and were given a number, 2 hours later we get called up, our IRCC officer is super friendly and even cracking jokes with us, asked a few basic questions, one question was the date of my entry into canada, had to clarify if she meant my first ever entry, that was in 2006 but that was on my old passport, she looked it up and confirmed it on her end so was all good, then she said those magic stress relieving words *congratulations you are now a Permanent resident of Canada* i signed 2 coppies of the COPR *)Confirmation Of Permanent Residency*....we walked out with huge grins on our face and a big hug, drove home (about 90mins outside Toronto) and celebrated with a few pints......done and dusted!!!
I should add i applied for an OWP (open work permt) in conjunction with the PR application, and actually got PR before the OWP was done processing.
Also the IRCC emailing system is abit wonky because we got some emails completely out of order. After i recieved my confirmation landing interview email, i recieved an email saying i qualified to apply for PR.
We were very shocked at how fast this process was, i know its not as quick for everyone but obviously we were relieved when it was all done, and it seemed like everything just went right from the get go.
All in all, from the start of processing to signing of the COPR document, it took 4-5 months.
I know its abit long winded but maybe something in my experience can help someone else or at least put their mind to rest.
Any question il be happy to help if i can
Regards
