Hi!

I've never posted on a forum before so apologies if I'm doing this all wrong, but I'm really concerned that my online application for an eTA has not been approved. I'm from Australia and none of the Canadian consulates can help me.

I'm meant to be travelling on the 5th June to Canada and I applied for my eTA on the 27 April. My mum's got approved in 7 minutes after I submitted hers!

I waited 72 hours and then contacted the CIC via their online web form after seeing that my application was 'Open' and 'In Progress'. After receiving no reply from this after it supposedly takes them 10 days to reply I attempted to call around in Australia but I keep getting the run around and no one is able to help.

So...this week I submitted another web form.

How can I resolve this being in another country? Should I try to apply for another visa online?

I'm feeling very anxious right now and any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

did you not read the official website for ETA applications, the ETA is not mandatory until Sept 29. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta.asp

Did you check some box on the application re convictions or having previously applied to emigrate or some other box that could have flagged your application. Are you or have you ever been a permenant resident of Canada. These are some reasons not an instant approval but usually you get an email asking for more info and some others have taken weeks to get approved.

Can always i guess withdraw the application http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=741&top=23

Thanks, and yes I did note that, however the website is full of other contradictory information, one part states:

"Foreign nationals from the following countries will need an eTA before boarding their flight to Canada as of March 15, 2016" and Australia is one of them.

When I called the Australian consulates no one was able to verify the leniency period and recommended I don't risk going until the eTA is approved.

Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated!

Website here is very clear: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1238&top=16

Even if you applied but don't have an answer yet, you can still fly since eTA is not yet mandatory until September. As long as you haven't actually been denied for eTA, you are completely fine to travel. This applies to every non-US visa-exempt traveler.

Doesnt really help when airlines dont bother to update their info pages to reflect ETA not mandatory until end Sept and anyone who does not have one can still board a plane. Even BA and Air Canada still say is required now even though is not.

Then again no surprise as the ETA deployment seems to have been mismanged from the start. And as said unless actually been denied should not be an issue.
