This is somewhat complicated. My wife and I have been in a relationship since 1998, however she was unable to get a divorce from her husband so she would spend much of her time here in the U.S with me. We never thought the day would come when we could actually be together permanently, but her husband developed an aggressive form of cancer and passed away in Feb 2014. Despite being a smart businessman, he didn't do a good job of taking care of certain things - there wasn't a will drawn up until his last days, no real cash around, etc, and the Canadian government is looking to get $1.5 million they claim is owed by the estate.

My wife was put in the will as the executor of the estate, but none of what is owed is in her name and they are not coming after her personally in any way - just the estate. There are family attorneys and accountants trying to clear up the matter.

The question is whether anyone thinks this could be affecting us getting SA. We got AOR right in line with the other March applicants, but are still waiting on SA and the processing times updated on the CIC website to April 2. We are going to call on Monday, but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. I know it's a unique situation and not even sure what kind of answers I'm expecting, but thought I would throw it out there anyway.

I doubt it has any impact at all. CIC wouldn't know about any of that stuff, other than her ex is deceased.

Thanks - that's what I've always thought in terms of impact, but since we're behind in processing SA it dawned on me that this might be why. We haven't received any requests, etc, so I'm hoping it's just sloth and laziness on someone's part at CIC.
