We are in the middle of applying for a spousal visa which has been away for months now. There is a problem with the RCMP police check in that they have a waiting time of around 4 months to deal with requests. Am I able to enter Canada for say 6 months without the visa and then come back out again? And how long would I have to come out of the country for before going back in?

It depends entirely on the country of your origin. If you are from a visa exempt country, you don't have to have a visa. You can stay for up to 6 months as long as you can convince the officers that you have sufficient ties to your home country. You can leave at the end of that for a short time (even a day trip) and come back again. Keep in mind that the officers could deny you entry, but this generally doesn't happen as long as you maintain that your residence is in your home country and that you have the finances to support you while in Canada.

A couple clarifying questions will help you get informed answer your questions...
!. Have you already submitted your app or are you still "in the middle" of preparing it? Maybe you are waiting for RCMP check before applying; is that correct?
2. Inland or outland?
3. Are you currently in Canada and inquiring about leaving or are you currently out of Canada and trying to enter? If you stay in Canada for almost 6 months, did you know you could apply for an extension without having to leave?
4. What country are you from and is it visa exempt?
Thanks, Allison
