Anyone done it, any advice please?

Sure, I have entered with an IEC twice, and have entered as a visitor twice.

What specifically do you want to know?

Sent you a Pm

Taddy it is best to discuss everything in the open so that a) you get different people's opinions, b) others who see this thread can benefit from the answers and c) so that anything in PM's is verified by others, I would hate to give you bad advice.

For other people's benefit here is the message you sent me

We're just at the "decision made" point for sponsorship approval and although we don't know what it is yet, we hope it's a yes.

Problem is, I have no idea how much longer my PR application will take but I'm not expecting it to be done this year and we're moving to Canada next month.

As you know, we live in the UAE. My husband is no longer working here so staying here is not an option, and neither is us all moving to the UK. We'll be showing up in Canada with 6 suitcase and our three dogs. I think we should say we'rejust visiting and tell immigration we brought our dogs because it's cheaper than putting them in kennels but my husband thinks we're better off telling the truth and saying we're hoping to stay and extend my visa for another 6 months in the hope my PR is granted in that time, and if it's not my son and I will return to the UK.

Thanks. I was just wary of who might be looking at this forum (too long in the Middle East maybe) and was worried about maybe flagging myself up when I do travel.

As an update, we are now in Canada.

We arrived last month with suitcases, boxes and dogs. At immigration my husband said we were returning to Canada permanently. We are asked the value of our shipment and my husband said very small, that our shipment was all on its way.

We didn't volunteer extra info but neither did we attempt to lie or hide anything. Passports stamped and off we went....

My daughter arrived the next day. We gave her a letter from us explaining that she was joining us and that PR was under process. she showed it to imm and was on her way.

You are so lucky to be able to have your spouse join you in Canada....we applied for a visit visa last year after getting married and it was refused....so now I'm living here in the UAE on a tourist visa to be with him while we wait...time to start looking for work (LOL!)

Congrats and best of luck in Canada.

Thanks for the update.

What do you plan on doing when you guys get CORP?

Chilkootcee, I'm UK passport holder so visa on arrival. Like I said, my husband (who's Canadian) was upfront about why we were there - didn't try and pass it off as a vacation - and no problem. Once I've been here 5 months I'll apply for extension and hopefully get a VR which will allow me to get a BC driver's licence as I'm driving on my UK one right now.

Tofuboi, we are staying here. We bought property here in BC last year and that is where we're living now. Our son has his place confirmed in school and my daughter is still deciding whether to stay or return to the UK. For us, this is it - this is where we want to live out the rest of our lives.

Just applied for a TRV for my husband to visit Canada...and we actually only intend to visit as his work is our sole income right now (with me staying with him)....so for us it's okay to live in UAE and wait while our application is being processed. It would be soooo nice for him to be able to meet my family that he hasn't met yet.

For our first TRV application last year (it was refused) we stated we weren't sure about deciding to stay for purposes of PRV (indicating we were aware of dual intent allowance)...but that was also before we applied for so I think Canada wasn't quite comfortable letting in a Syrian without more background info....plus we had just been married for a couple of months at the time...

This time, we stated we knew about dual intent but re-iterated our plans to stay in Dubai while the PRV application is being processed (I also had a return ticket to Dubai for the end of the visit date). So hopefully....we get the TRV....what would be even nicer would be if they would grant him a multiple entry visa as I've heard many spouses are able to obtain. Does anyone know if this has to be applied for? or does CIC just figure it out that maybe our spouses would want to visit their future country on occasion?

Yes it has to be applied for, there are no easy passes for PR applicants in regards to visas. It sometimes helps to say you have a PR app in process but many people get their visas declined anyways. You have to still satisfy the visa requirements (ties to home country, money etc).
