Greetings everyone,

I have my 12 months Skill Type A work experience and I'm going to be sitting the IELTS test in a few weeks.

I was wondering, if I fail to make the grades, can I simply rebook the test straight away and sit it again?

Or can you only sit it once in a certain time period?

Thanks!

Pete

First of all, you don't "fail', you are ineligible if your scores are below the requirements.

Second, if your scores are too low, you can register for the test again and re-take it. It takes about 2 weeks to get your results back. You can register for the test as often as you'd like, you just need to pay the fees again.

To be eligible, your scores would have to be at CLB 7 for all four sections.

Good Luck!

Can I ask where you got the info? The new CIC OP manual states otherwise...

What part do you have question about? the CLB 7 part? if so here is the link that has this information:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/language.asp

The new OP Manual didn't even include the most important change to the CEC requirement, which is 12 months of work experiences instead of 24 months for Worker Stream, the manual also didn't include any information regarding the new CELPIP-G exam which is also now accepted as a test for language requirements.

Not sure how good of a reference this is. If you look under section 9, subsection 11, you may notice that this OP still refers to the 24 month rule, but the date on the document is 02/01/2013.

"For the Temporary Foreign Worker Stream, the applicant must have 24 months of fulltime
equivalent Canadian skilled-work experience
at NOC 0, A or B acquired in Canada,
within the 36 months preceding the date their application is made."

Like I said, the "new" manual seems like the old manual. Nothing important has been added. So I wouldn't advise anyone to use it as a guide, but instead use the website.

Thanks for the advice.

So am I right in thinking that in order to reach the required standard of CLB 7, I need to score at least a 6 in each of the 4 categories?

It's a relief to know that if I screw it up, I can just retake until I pass.

One last thing, a friend of mine has 9 months experience in NOC 1122 and 3 months experience in NOC 1223. The 3 months experience in NOC 1223 was a completely different job at a completely different company to the 9 months 1122 experience, does she still qualify?

Thanks everyone :-)

Yes, you'd need at least a 6 in all four sections.

Yes, your friend is qualified. But she needs to make sure there is no gap in her work experiences and everything is clearly dated on her work experience letter!

Good Luck!

That's great Johnny, thank you sir.

Can I just ask what it is you mean by 'no gap in her work experience'? Do you mean that both jobs (the 1122 and the 1223) need to consecutive?

I believe both of her jobs were in the last 3 years, but she had a contract position in between the 9 month and 3 month positions that was below the required skill type.

Hey,

What I meant by "No Gap" is since you said she worked 12 months correct? if she had taken any days off during her 3 months or during her 9 months, the Visa Officers might count it as 11 months and so so days. You get what I'm saying? And I've seen people getting rejected because of miscounting days.

But no, the work experiences does not have to be consecutive. I always tell people to work a little past 12 months so you can give yourself some breathing space in case CIC wants to hassle you about your work experience.

Hey Johnny,

Wow, that's great advice. I had no idea they would be so anal!

I've only just qualified the 12 months, but I guess I need to think hard about how much time off I've had. I thought that in the forms, you simply had to make sure that the dates you wrote down for work experience in the required skill level, equalled more than 12 months.

I've had 2 positions that are in the required Skill Level O,A or B. They both were temporary contracts, one was for 12 months, and one for 2 months. Do think I could be okay with this?

My current work permit runs out in July, so after I send this off, I'm going to apply for the new bridging work permit too!

Yes, that's fine

If your two positions > 12 months combined, you should be okay!
