PLZZZZ English Profeciency

someone mentioned a case of an oxford english literature student from russia who was asked to do the IELTS.
On the other hand, someone in another forum said they didnt do the IELTS because they have lived US for long and it was accepted.

Personally, I know some top students who are writing papers and giving talks and will graduate from one of the best universities in the US but really struggle with English.

On a personal note, I did not do the IELTS and in some ways, regret it because I am pretty sure they will ask me to do it (or reject me) but I don't have the time to go do it.

So the choice is yours. Most people will say do it. It really depends on cost vs. risk that you are willing to accept. Good luck.

Let me put it this way.

If you do IELTS and submit the score report, the visa officer can make a quantitative judgement. Even if the visa officer had a really bad day, still he/she will have to award u the same number of points.

If you don't do IELTS and submit 'evidence', the visa officer will have to make a qualitative judgement and place u in a suitable scale.

Put yourself in the visa officer's shoes. Will u award 'high' proficiency to an applicant, based on a qualitative judgement?

In simple and short words, I can only tell you one thing: GO FOR IT. It reduces the risk if your score is good.

Well thanks for all, is there any form of the cover letter that I can use to explain my english Prof. ? thnx again.

My strong advise is to go for it, i had a case of friend whose case was accepted without IELTS and one friend who got rejection due to non availability of IELTS, you have to provide them a letter explaining why do you think that you dont have to take IELTS. Visa Offcier will than rely on papers that you submit. It can be either.

thanks,, I meant if any body has a English demonstration form I can use to explain my profeciency in english.

and about the cover letter is there any specific format for the cover letter?? Thansk

Don't get me wrong - With all due respect, you have a spelling mistake in your subject itself and a few spelling mistakes in your above sentences.
I strongly suggest you take care of these things when submitting your case for English proficiency to the Visa Office.

GOOD LUCK

Re: English Proficiency

Thanks for you note,, you know sometimes when you type in a bit fast you wloud make some mistakes in the spellings and so on.....I would really like to thank you.

If your English is good, then there is no problem for you to take the test to secure high score awarded for language.
Otherwise officer's evaluation may not be as high.

Don't take chances. Just take the IELTS. I'm sure you'll get the maximum points.

Do the IELTS. I,m sure you are well tutored but there is no harm in burying your pride in this instance.
Apart from anything else, wouldn,t it be a safer bet to do it anyway.

Take it or not that is the question, you'll hear both sides, it is completely up to you. My wife was in a similar position and at the end we decided to take the IELTS, we did not want leave that decision in immigration’s hands. If your English is good, you should have no problems scoring high, well you can also provide proof of your proficiency etc. by showing them your publications etc. Make a call!
Good luck

When it comes to letter, I presume there is no specific template. Each case will be different from another, so just write your letter, explaining your skills, document your arguments and there you go. It shouldn't take you too long.
