I wanted to quickly check if CIC actually calls the employment references that you provide.

I will be providing HR document plus a colleague's letter.

My only problem is my colleague is soon moving to Asia. I do not know what contact number he will have there? and I was a little hesitant in providing personal email id? (I am going to list current contact details anyway but dont really know if he'll be here by the time CIC decides to contact him)

Any one with an experience with something like this?

Very rare but there have been cases where the employer was contacted for verification.

Ask him. If he was supportive enough to provide you with a reference letter, I'm sure if you ask he would agree to use his personal email, with the explanation.
