With my partner and our child (4 month old baby), we want to work in Canada. We are all Belgian citizens. Our future Canadian employer submitted a job offer on our name to IRCC through the Employer Portal and provided us with a job offer number : 1 job offer for me and 1 job offer for my partner (= Employer-specific work permits). We are exempt from LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment).
We must now apply for a work permit on the Government of Canada website (CIC - Citizenship and Immigration Canada).
Here are the questions we ask ourselves:
1. Do we have to make 2 separate work permit requests (my partner and me) via two separate profiles on the CIC website or a single request on the profile of one of us? (> Actually the problem is that in this last option it does NOT seem possible to choose a work permit without LMIA for the second person > how to get around this obstacle?) Is making separate applications a disadvantage? (one of us is currently unemployed in belgium)
2. What must be done for our minor child, considered as our dependent child? Should it be included in this work permit application, despite the fact that there is no possibility on the CIC online form to specify that this child does not need a work contract? Is the proposed category 'Visit - Other' valid in this case? If not, what are the steps to take for this child? (do we need a Temporary Resident Visa - TRV? Or a Electronic Travel Authorization, but only valid for maximum 6 months?)
