Hi,

where to find a cheap walk in dental clinin in north york, I still didnt got my OHIP card ,and the private clinics are expensive,i think i need to do a root canal or at lease filling a tooth.....so can i go to community health care center without OHIP and be treated at subsidized price since I am still looking for a job and and i am a new comer.

OHIP doesn't cover dental procedures. So even if you had OHIP you would still be paying full price for the root canal or filing on your own.

If you are eligible, you can contact the U of T Faculty of Dentistry as such their fees are lower than those of private dentists.

There is a waiting list for that and before the patient is even admitted there are several appointments that you need to make before they do anything to your teeth.

Hardly a walk in.

Their prices are around 20-30% cheaper.

Thanks all,

Today I went to a private dentist, only to see the dr cost me 50$ plus 20$ for X-ray, and he gave me a treatment plan that will cost 1400$....!!!!!....that is unbelievable ...!! is this the standard price for a root canal + filing here or what...!!! what if I try to check with clinics out side of toronto, is their prices cheaper !!.....how about walking to an emergency unit in a goverment hospital will they treat me .?

There are no dental clinics in hospitals. You have to pay through your nose..... the price is about right.

I don't think prices outside Toronto are cheaper, but you can try Hamilton. Plenty of people on social assistance there, so give it s shot.

Welcome to Canada and free Canadian healthcare.

BTW, I have been diagnosed with Asthma 2 years ago in Canada. I had to pay for medication (only 1 med) that cost me $115.

I bought the same medication here in Thailand for $43. Not over the counter, but the very same brand.

The worst thing is I was talking with someone from UK and they are paying 8 pounds for the very same medication.

I just read the other day that NHS (UK) has been voted the best medicare system in the world.

Canada is just a one big scam.

Unfortunately that price sounds about right - but you should definitely shop around. Emergency rooms don't offer dental care. So there's no point going to an emergency room - they will send you away and tell you to go to a dental clinic.

Because drug companies choose to charge more for drugs here than they do in Thailand to account for the differing economic conditions? Or because the government does not subsidize medication like it does in the UK, thereby keeping taxes lower on the general population? I'm not sure how you can blame the government, or the country as a whole, for either.

To get wisdom teeth pulled, I paid $150 per tooth in Toronto Ontario.. no insurance.

In the US (Bay Area, California), no insurance, cost $1050 per tooth.

Canada wins by a long shot.

This is actually a little different. Why? Because wisdom teeth are usually done in the hospital where I assume the government pays for some of the costs such as facilities, anesthetics and staff.

Actually, I heard that if you let your wisdom teeth get bad enough where there is a risk of blood infection the insurance will cover it.

Do at your own risk, though.

I heard that too, about the infection thing, but a bit silly to risk that. The wisdom teeth I had removed in Toronto were at a dental clinic.

Didn't have to worry about anesthetic. Not really necessary anymore.

I do find it funny that, if I had supplemental insurance in Toronto, they'd have charged my insurer up the ass, but because I was cash, I was given a vastly different deal, whereas in the states, I was basically given the insurers rate for cash. So I said *censored word* no.

That is very cheap. I did it in Montreal over 10 years ago and it was 250 per tooth. In total it came out to $1250 for 4 teeth including misc fees. It was done in the hospital.

You should refer OP to your dentist.
