As i have a minor criminal record i decided to apply for an eTA well before the May inception date, it quickly asked me for my police record report. And this is where it all went wrong! On the application i confessed to two drink driving offences but only one of them is on my police report as the first one is well over 30 years old. Ive a nasty feeling ill now be assessed on what i have told them as opposed to the content of my police report which places me in a unique situation of being probably the only person on the planet that has owned up to more crime than they need have...drat. And there appears to be no way to speak to anyone.

Any advice anyone? At least they cant get me for being dishonest ....

You did the right thing. No - you're not the only person who has owned up fully to your crimes. This is what everyone is supposed to do and most people do in fact do this.

When was the 2nd DUI?

Hi Scylla

2003....if it were for this one criminal act i think i could deem myself rehabilitated but as ive applied for the eTA it has told me I cant travel to Canada via auto email response until approved.... :o

Got an approval to travel from CIC this morning for my eTA...in the end i uploaded my stepped down information via their case specific enquiry form, 2 weeks later i got an email thanking me for the additional information and 24 hours later an approval! Total time 2 months and 12 days....

Crafty last question for anyone who fancies a punt at this....having now been allowed entry based on a full cirminal declaration would that mean that as far as criminality checks are concerned if i wanted to emigrate that hurdle is now behind me?

Cheers!

Mark

Mark - I know this is an older topic and hoping you're still around.

My dad's in a similar situation having had a DUI in 2005 and wreckless driving 20+years back.
Before applying for his eta im trying to figure out everything we will need to present.
Could you share some more information about what you had to supply on the eta and further when asked?

How do they know if you have something on your police report? I mean, if you fill out the ETA application and choose NO to the criminality question even if you have something? Before someone states the obvious, it's lying I know, and moraly wrong and all, but seriously, how can they find out? If you are not from the US which shares it's database with Canada, how on earth can they find out? I am not saying it's the right thing to do, but if someone is going on a 2 week vacation, what stops them from answering NO? Asside from the moral arguments and feeling of guilt that you lied? Or better yet, before ETA was introduced, did people with criminal backgrounds travel to Canada with no obstructions? Nobody asked them if they had something to report?

Just my 2 cents...
