It's a misrepresentation for which there are legal consequences including paying a fine and/or jail term. May also involve being denied entry into Canada for a specified duration. It is clearly mentioned on the CIC website and any/all forms that are to be filled during submission.
You must include your wife in your profile, however, you can state that she is not accompanying you. Yes, you can sponsor her after getting your PR, but it might take some time. Here are a few links that might be useful:
