Hi,

So my work permit is expiring soon. If I get invitation to apply before that, would I be able to stay with an implied status while waiting for my PR to process? Or would I have to apply for visitors visa?

Thanks

you don't get implied status from having received an ITA. You can get it if you've submitted a PR application (post ITA), and applied for a bridging permit while your current permit is still valid.

Thanks. But what if your work permit expires by the time you submit your PR application? What happens then?

you'll need to switch to visitor or leave the country and wait for PR.

the main point is, PR applications do NOT give you implied status for work permits. Only another work permit application - submitted before the previous one expires - can give you implied status to continue working.
