All of us want to be Canadian citizen,

I heard that education in Canada is average compare to India.
Many people keep their kids with grandparents in India to study well.
Is that true condition?

Because I am not ready to leave my son with my inlaws for better study.

I am more concerned about his education.

If you plan to live in Canada and become a Canadian citizen, your child will be better off being educated in Canada because he will be competing in the job market with other people who are also educated in Canada. Canadian employers tend to be suspicious of education gained elsewhere so sending him to what you consider to be a better school in India can actually work against him later.

There is nothing wrong with the Canadian schools. All the Canadian children go to them. You can help him with his homework or give him extra lessons and ensure that he will be at the top of his class.

Many people who go to different countries always think education was better back home but you can see that many indians go to Canada to study and not the other way around. This should tell you if Canada or India has a better education.

Also those who told you that Canadian education is not as good as Indian, do they live in Canada or India. If they live in Canada, did they send their kid back to India to study or are they paying lipservice. If they are living in India, do they really know anything about Canadian education.

I think I have pointed to some important points for you to think about and once you investigate that, you may get the answer that is right for you.

I agree with Leon. If your kid is going to live in Canada, that is where he should do his schooling. Further, Canadian universities are generally excellent. Their schooling systems would prepare the child best for those universities. Mine is just a thought, not a researched opinion.

LEON SIR IS VERY RIGHT.

one doesnot gets only 'academic knowledge',but also absorbs education system, moral values of a society, awareness of social problems of a system, their thinking process according to society needs, and many other personal/social experiences that helps one in getting absorb in that society/country.

* i lived abroad for 10 yrs & have some observation/experience in that regard. :)

its better to give your child BEST OF YOURS(your culture, language, moral values, etc)instead of sending child to grandparents for studies.its my personal view.

When getting a job in Canada the serial of preference is :-
1. An applicant who is born in Canada
2. An applicant who did schooling in Canada.
3. An applicant who came to Canada for diploma or degree after 12th grade.
4. An applicant who came as Refugees.

Indian education is theory therory theory test test test and then percentage. Practical experience is missing. Indian fresh engineer would be craming books but have little practical knowledge or experience. Canadan engineering student usually worked 2 years ( Co-op) before the end of his degree. Open book test system do not exist in India, so students all the time are only craming defination and theory. In India, the best student is one who crams well and not one who understands well.

School kids in India are also limited to homework, craming and test. I found system of imparting education here in Canada is better if someone wants to live and work here. Apart from formal education the kids learn lot of activities.

When someone intend to live in work in Canada, the education here is best and their is no need to think that education at other places is better.

Here they see the age of the kid for putting in any grade. 6 years old goes to class 1st. 7 years 2nd grade and it goes on.

Dear explorer,
thanks a lot for reply.
do u mean the standard of class the kid studied in India does not matter while getting admission in a public school in Canada?
Do they take ank knowledge assessment/admission test like many convent schools do in INdia?
r school books given free or one has to purchase?
What things/documnet r required for getting admission in a primary school for first or 2nd grader?
in which month admissions for primary schools r done?i mean in which month the school session starts in ontario, vanada?
what happens if school is in mid of its session when u land in Canada & go for kids admission? will they they give admission in same class even if half the session is gone by that time? or will the kid b placed in a lower class?

thanks

r school books given free or one has to purchase? It's like borrowing books from libraries. If you don't return by the end of the school days, you have to purchase
What things/documnet r required for getting admission in a primary school for first or 2nd grader?
Any document which verifies the student's legal name, date of birth, home address, custody papers where applicable, and date of entry to Canada
in which month admissions for primary schools r done?i mean in which month the school session starts in ontario, vanada?
Usually September

You don't know until you go to the school because it is subject to availability

>>> It does not matter much upto 8th standard. For9th standard onwards they have grilling test.

Do they take ank knowledge assessment/admission test like many convent schools do in INdia?
>>> They ask a lot of question about parents, immunization, any medication required by kid, medium of previous education, activities involved, custody issues( single parent- grilled me),small test is there but they say it is not important. Board, school and area Social worker would be contacting you and will call you for meeting.

r school books given free or one has to purchase?
>>> Books are kept at school only, teachers give assignment sheets only. If you need books you need to be in contact with teacher and in case he/ she would become fussy. You would have to show valid reason why you want books. They dont like it and dont want to stress up kids. In case teacher agrees you get books free from school. Schools are beautiful. Better than private schools in India.

What things/documnet r required for getting admission in a primary school fome onor first or 2nd grader?
>> Passport, landing papers, home address ( letter from bank or address mentioned on CoPR, lease documents), immunization record ( including doctors report of list of vac administered), remember no record - no admission

in which month admissions for primary schools r done?i mean in which month the school session starts in ontario, vanada?
>>> Session if Sep to June. New admission starts Aug last.Admission of kids in a public school is matter of right, you will get in between session also.

what happens if school is in mid of its session when u land in Canada & go for kids admission? will they they give admission in same class even if half the session is gone by that time? or will the kid b placed in a lower class?

>>> admission is as per age, no higher or lower standard. Admission is matter of right usually get in nearby school.

Hope this helps you.

thanks a lot dear explorer and dear steaky...it makes clear a lot of issues...
For immunisation record, is the immunisation card issued by a pediatrician from India sufficient? Or do we need immunisation letter written on Hospitals letter pad?
thanks

Hey Explorer,

Its nice to see fellow forum members help each others and your post is surely very enlightening. :)
Although it has helped me to gain most of my answers, I do have a few queries -

1. My son has passed 11th here in India in ICSE Board - are transcripts a requisite to be provided by me ??

2. He is 16 yrs 2 months to be precise. Will he get admission in the 12th grade directly?

Regards
