1/ Hi everyone, I need advice regarding my CRS points and ECA report. I recently added my ECA certificate number, but my points didn’t change. I’m unsure if it’s due to formatting or another issue. Here’s the situation:

2/ I hold a PhD in Civil Engineering from Canada (so Canadian education).
However, I did an ECA for my Master’s degree through the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies.

The ECA number format looks like this:
CIC-0000XXXXX-IMM.

3/ My CRS points haven’t updated after inputting the ECA. Could it be:

  • The ECA format isn’t valid?
  • The system doesn’t recognize the ECA?
  • There’s confusion between Canadian and foreign education qualifications?
4/ I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who’s faced a similar issue or has expertise with ECAs and the CRS system.

Is this a common issue, or should I reach out to IRCC for clarification?

5/ Thanks in advance for your help!

You have a PhD so no need for ECA. You don’t get more points for Masters.

Hi there, appreciate if you could help me with a similar doubt I've.

I am not new to EE and recently, when I tried creating one, i see a mismatch in the points for canadian education (15 points less than what's expected (as per the official CRS calculator). Can you help me understand where the mistake could be?

You have answered one or more questions incorrectly. Review everything again.

Say, i noticed a mistake i.e. with the pin code of the college and I wanna fix it. Can i update the form with the correct details, save and wait for the points to reflect or what is it like?

hey i got another doubt? when you say review everything, say i found another mistake.. if i fix it as well, update the form with the correct details, save and wait for the points to reflect or what is it like?

Hi there, I will look into my account if i have answered one or more questions incorrectly. however, with respect to the EE profile, I am still stuck with the same question. As you can understand, 15 points is not something i can afford to lose and It'd be great if you have anything to add.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you are missing 15 points for Canadian education, this means you have answered a question incorrectly somewhere. It's hard for us to guess what that might be. If you cannot figure it out, post all of the questions here related to your education and which answer you picked in your EE profile.

Thanks for your quick response. Let me put my question this way,

atm, i cant access gckey, so i will try to frame it properly.

1. education - lets say, pin code is wrong and rest of the details like DLI number etc., are fine > do you think that could be the mistake?
2. Foreign work exp - bit of a dilemma here, i have (most recent) experience in 21223/ 21231 and per the recent changes in STEM, they are not part of category based draw > could that be a reason for points mismatch?

My expected CRS score: 483 (When i use the official CRS calculator)
What I see on Gckey after profile submission: 468

If you'd need the complete breakdown of points to identify the root cause, do let me know.

Thanks again!

Hi Scylla,

Could you please help me fix this points mismatch?

I am missing 15 points for CRS Canadian education under the last section of score breakdown "other"

when you say "you have answered a question incorrectly somewhere" - is it while creating the EE profile or answering the questionnaire before you get to the profile creation part?

It's somewhere in your EE profile. Review every question very carefully again and your answer.
