Looking for guidance on how IRCC handles duplicate PR card renewals when a webform withdraw request can’t be attached yet.
Timeline:
- Sep 4, 2025: PR card renewal submitted (I accidentally reversed Family/Given names on IMM 5444).
- Sep 8, 2025: Corrected application submitted with proper name order (same supporting docs/fee receipt).
- Webforms (Sep 8 & Sep 10): Asked IRCC to withdraw Sep 4 application and process Sep 8.
- IRCC reply: “We verified the information you provided and can confirm that it is not necessary to provide additional documentation or update your information if you do not currently have an application in process with IRCC.
For this reason, the information you provided will not be added to your file.
If applicable, we invite you to include this information when you submit a new application.” - Phone with IRCC: Agent said they can’t see/attach notes until an officer opens the file; once opened, they’ll typically deal with duplicates then.
Questions:
- If the webform withdraw request isn’t attached yet, how will the officer know to withdraw the Sep 4 file when they first open a file?
- What usually happens to the older submission? Does it get returned/marked invalid/withdrawn, or could it be processed by mistake?
- When the officer sees a later corrected submission (Sep 8) under the same UCI, do they automatically continue with the latest one, or do I need to take any further action?
- How will I know when my application is “in process” and has an application number? Once I have that number, is it helpful to send one more webform quoting it to confirm the withdrawal of the Sep 4 file, or is it better to wait?
Any inputs would be really appreciated. Thanks!
