Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Dear All,
Is it mandate to get the Canadian Driving license for employment purposes? How long our own country driving license will be valid?
I prefer to not to buy a car for atleast few months and use only transit services, Do we need to mention about driving license in the resume?

Kindly comment.

Thanks

It is not mandatory but preferable to get it whenever you can. If you are working and living close to/in downtown Vancouver or Toronto, then you wont need a car. Infact it wont be feasible as transit and walk will take you anywhere within minutes, plus car parking fee is insanely high in DTs not to mention the pain to find parking spots. If you work far from where you live and no rapid train connects you to your work then may be you need a car.

Driving license do increase your employability if you are planning to work in semi skilled jobs like delivery, uber, driving truck or cab, or you work in real estate where you travel to neighborhoods for doing deals. If you are doing office job and know transit, then you can delay buying a car and rather save money for down payment of apartment etc. If you have kids, then car would be a helpful thing to have.

Thanks for the response.

In outside sales jobs or other sales jobs where travelling is a must it is mandatory to have a driving license in good standing...however, if you dont travel too much...well, i guess you should..explore the country..

you can apply for a International driving permit..lmost likely valid for a year with which you can drive here...however you must be aware of all the driving rules, insurance coverage, etc...

Please also be aware that every province has different rules and different documents that they require in terms of docs for proof of your driving experience IF you were applying for a new DL here...

Int'l driving permit and safe driving here would get you a foot in the door...

Hope this helps!!

Best wishes!!!! :)

Most provinces require you to exchange your existing license within 90 days of taking up residency in that province.

No, it varies country to country and province to province. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/after-transportation-driving.asp

You'll need to make sure you have car insurance too or face imprisonment. Costs about $20 a month.
