Are air bags by law (as in specifically written within inspection guidelines) a provincial and/or federal requirement to certify a vehicle as roadworthy? If a car is a collector/classic car are there modified requirements? I'm visiting Toronto Ontario and trying to find more info. I'm trying to find the actual written regulations that qualifying/ disqualifying a passenger/recreational vehicle and figure out if I'm driving illegally/ in violation while traveling within Canada. I haven't had any issues but would like to educate myself on the situation.
scenario- the car is US owned, registered, certified, insured and is about a 20yr old beater station car. It has no airbags, which weren't required to pass inspection, register and insure where I'm from. Although it is currently roadworthy within the US I'm wondering if it is some how "at fault" and no longer roadworthy by differences in Canadian vs US regulations and what could potentially happen legally and financially if I get pulled over or even worse in an accident. I've been driving under the assumption that the car and my insurance are fine but have not looked into the details of international traveling and laws that govern visiting/traveling drivers and their vehicles.
