Landing in BC a few months. Renting a car with my Macau SAR driver's license at landing for 2 weeks.

Wrote to ICBC and told me I need to surrender my Macau SAR driver's license when applying for BC DL, did they really take away your country of original license on the spot?

First of all, I can't give up my Macau SAR DL just because I will still be on the car rental. Secondly, can they just "take away" my DL like that? Thirdly, BC doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with Macau SAR, which means I'll need to go through all the tests and that takes time.

Anyone tried transferring your DL and can share your experience?

1). If you pass the knowledge test, upon surrender your Macao license, you would be given a BC "learner's license".

2) Like it or not, eventually, you will have to choose whether to get a BC driver license or give up your Macao driver license. The law does not allow you to keep both.

Well, not that I mind to surrender my other driver's license. Only there's a time gap in between getting the learner's to passing the road test to get the full license. Being a learner, I can't drive alone. Therefore, I wonder if I have to give up upon getting the learner or only need to give up upon getting the full license and want to know if anyone has any experience dealing with the inconvenience in between.
