I landed in late 2014 and planning to move to Montreal soon, depending on my work situation.

Just wondering what would be a safe and easy commute part to live in downtown or close to downtown? The last time I was there I was close to the Place des Arts metro.
How can I go about looking for short term accommodation (a month) in an apartment? And what would be the associated costs?

There are a lot of apartments near Place-Des-Arts station, you could get an apartment for around 750-900 bucks per month - check craiglist for more details. Living in downtown has it's own advantages, there is a lot of action around Place-Des-Arts and you can be there in no time if you want to take part in it. Not sure about the short term accommodation though.
