Hello there,

I’m an Italian / Argentinian citizen, I’ve entered Canada with my Italian passport and I have been here for 5 months already.

Last Tuesday I applied for an extension of my visa from within Canada for another 6 months.

What really troubles me is that last Friday while checking the processing times (Which are not up to date) I see this message:

“Last update: September 9, 2018 Updated weekly

Only valid Study or Work Permit holders can apply for new temporary resident visas from inside Canada.

This processing time tells you how long it took us to process most complete applications, in the past. It doesn’t include document mailing time.

Your processing time may vary depending on how many applications we receive.

Your application may be delayed or returned if it’s not complete.

If it’s been longer than the time shown above since you applied, check your application status. If you don’t see an update, contact us.”

This along my application worries me, I’ve been extremely honest in every point except saying that I’m staying at a friend house instead my girlfriend, and lacking some updated financial proof because last data I have is the one before leaving Argentina (I took some photos of the cash I have and did some input validation with IDs and date/time from CIC website)

What should I do now? Is there any reason why I should be rejected? Should I follow up with a call tomorrow?

Thanks

You're not applying for a new visa/counterfoil which will be stamped in your passport. You have applied to extend your visitor status. Two completely different things.

Also, processing times are just averages/estimates. Each application could take any length of time for a decision. So nothing to worry about.

What is the reason for seeking an extension to your stay?

Quite honestly, photographs of cash mean nothing. You need to prove you can financially support your extended stay. If your reason to stay longer is to work towards achieving common law then your girlfriend's finances could be submitted along with your finances

Well. As I stated in the letter attached to the request I’m currently self-studying full time, furthermore I got a certification at the Montreal College and I’m preparing another one, I also want to keep visiting places since I didn’t so much.

About the money I presented tons of papers of assets and balance I have back in Argentina. I also sent invoices of purchases I made (A lot ) these past months. I have, cash, with me around 11000 CAD and no way to proof that online. That’s why I sent the photo.

Not sure how these certifications will help your career. You could have opted for a study permit that could lead to a PGWP/longer stay.

Also, you need to prove you have the financial means to support your extended stay/your studies.

If you were paid in cash for any work that you did or from the sale of any assets/property then you should have included evidence of that work/sale. Otherwise again photographs of cash mean nothing. It could belong to anyone else

From what I know IT certifications won’t apply to any study permit because they are self study. I don’t need to apply or roll in at any institution.

Again, about the money, when I arrived, immigrations at the airport they just asked me how much money I had. I don’t have any bills or receipts made back from Argentina, we just don’t do things the same way, but I do have legal papers about my assets and I sent that too

I just can’t believe that I can’t proof the money I have with me but simply words will make it at the airport.

Regarding working in PVR or PGWP I’ll do it when the time comes as it should be. I’m here in a legal way, my girlfriend and I we are ok and doing fine but we just want to make sure of us for the future before proceeding.

Many IT certifications are online study programs + can be done from any other country. Basically, not a good idea to seek an extension.

You arrived on your Italian passport and your eTA was linked to that passport. These are standard questions that the officers ask at the POE.

Yes, your stay is perfectly legal. No doubts about it. It's just that unfortunately, you have not given convincing reasons for extending your stay + not proved you can financially afford the extended stay.

It would have helped if you had applied to extend your stay to achieve common law. IMO, that would have had better chances of approval. Anyways. What's done cannot be undone.

Hopefully your extended stay will be approved :)
