Hi!

I am Sanjeevan from India. I am studying in Karunya University, Coimbatore. I am currently in the sixth semester of B.Tech Electronics and Media Technology.

My acheivements are:

1. 10th (Matriculation State Board) - 86.4%
2. 12th (State Board) - 84.6%
3. B.Tech - 68.8% (with 2 standing arrears and a history of arrears more than 10)

I am interested in studying Masters in Canada in any city. My study abroad Counselor told that it is possible to study P.G. Diploma in Canada but getting into Master's is somewhat difficult (for the marks that I have). But, I have the opportunity to clear my arrears in the upcoming semesters and I can increase my percentage too. I would be very glad to hear from anyone regarding the study options (Master & P.G.Diploma) available in Canada relating to my area and also answer which degree will fetch immediate job opportunity.

Thank you...

well ur agent/counselor will never recommend masters as they get money from college to send students to Pg diploma/dploma. so fi u want to do master u should do ur research. find universities and what programs they offer by doing a web search(google). I dont believe ur percentage is that low u may have a chance for masters however if u have a chance study hard and improve ur percentage even further. Masters is also better option for express entry PR.

Dear Mr.Mead,

Which will fetch good job opportunities immediately after study? Masters or P.G.Diploma?

well thats difficult to answer. Degree/diploma is just a piece of paper and does not guarantee a job. Jobs depend on various factors like ur networking skills, ur soft/language skills, ur luck, ur grades, ur field of study, ur past experience etc. type of jobs u qualify after master and pg diploma are different. after masters u mostly get desk jobs and after pg diploma u get hands on jobs. example and a very exaggerated example will be after pg diploma u would be a mechanic and after masters a mechanical engineer. money wise they both have some what equal probabilities . so if ur a person who likes to work with ur hands then go for Pg diploma if u want a desk job then masters. with pg diploma u sometimes may not get a skilled job and that may affect ur PR chances . over all in my opinion masters is better option but again choice is urs.

Dear Mr.Mead,

I have been told that P.G. Diploma courses cost less than Masters courses. If I study P.G.Diploma in Canada and find a permanent work and become a P.R or citizen, will the public universities in Canada admit me waiving or reducing the tuition fee for the Master's degree?

no its a misconception that universities are more expensive. yes there r some which r more expensive than colleges but u have an option not to select them. example of universities with low tuition are memorial university , regina university. u should do a web search and read about their fees before u decide anything. Just dont blindly believe ur consultants they lie and try to make u go to a college instead of a university.
Getting PR has become very difficult for international students.

Dear Mr.Mead,

Will International students after studying Master's degree get P.R. without much difficulty?

like I said PR is not easy anymore and unpredictable ...it all depends on a points based system. so to get higher points and better chances master education is needed. PR does not become easy however u have better chances with a masters degree. read about express entry system

Here are just a few pointers for international students who are aiming for canadian education and later canadian PR.
1. Try to get atleast 1 year skilled experience outside canada helps ur points for express entry. 0 experience in home country puts u behind on points for PR
2. Read about PNP of the province ur going too
3. Improve ur english . higher the english language skills better chances of PR
3. Aim for better education, example rather than PG diploma go for masters if u can, this will give u more points for PR
4. always go for a 3 year PGWP with new PR rules it will almost be impossible to get PR in 1 year unless u have a LMIA.
5. choose a skilled profession(NOC 0,A,B).
6. use the CRS calculator to find out where u stand with regards to PR http://www.canadavisa.com/comprehensive-ranking-score-calculator.html
450 and above points are better. below 450 u will have hard time getting PR under express entry.
7. If you can improve ur French it would help u for PR.
8 read about Express entry program http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/express/express-entry.asp

these are a few pointers other people may add more but without thinking above point do not just jump in for canadian education it has now become very difficult to get PR so plan ahead
