Hi guys.
Just a quick question. I am filling the form under EE (after ITA)
the question asks:
How many family members does xxx have? (This includes xx, a spouse or partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.)

my question is , does the kid from my wife and her ex husband count as my family member?
my wife and her ex are sharing the custody so her daughter would stay with us every other day. Do I need to take her as my family member ? If I put her name in the system I have to put her into"step daughter" category. However I don't think right now she can be considered as my step daughter since I don't have her custodianship
both my wife and her daughter are already Canadian citizens so I don't need to worry about include them in the application. I just would like to fill the form as accurate as possible.

thanks

If you are married to her mother, she is your step daughter. It doesn't matter if you have custody or not.

Thanks!
btw
am I consider as her "guardian"? In the family information section there are questions ask my relationship with the kid. The choice are either "parent" or "guardian"

I don't think you're either.
"Dependants" include the child of your spouse, so there must be an option somewhere to list a child of your spouse.
I don't know where it might be though, because I have no dependants, so I've never seen that part of the form.

You might need to search the forum for similar questions, or reach out to a senior.

tried a couple of times, unless I chose No under the question"Do you (or your spouse/common-law partner) have any children?", there is no other way around this. altough the system do ask if this child is my adepted child and if this child is my spouse's biological child
anyway thanks for your info.

Here is how I answered the questionnaire:
1.Do you (or your spouse/common-law partner) have any children?

yes

2. How many children do you or your spouse/common-law partner have?

1

3. What is your relationship to the first child?

either Parent/Guardian no other options

4. First Child

What is this child's last name (family name)?

5 What is your first child's marital status?

6. What is your first child's relationship to you?

Step-Child

7.Is your first child included in this application?
NO

8.What is your first child's relationship to your spouse or common-law partner?
Biological Child

Question 3 : I'd choose parent (a step father is a parent, not a guardian).

I don't understand this at all. Questions 3 and 6 are asking the same thing.

even when my wife's ex husband still hold half of the custody?
I am so frustrated here and the CIC call centre told me that they DO NOT help with my form. I cannot find anything related to this topic.
The best way I can think of is to choose parent option and then provide a letter of explanation.

I think this is your best option.
Alternately, find someone else on the forum who has a non-accompanying step-child, and ask how they answered the question.

They are different questions.

3. Parent
6. Step Child

They're really not. Parent and step-parent aren't at all the same thing, and it's ridiculous that CIC's questionnaire doesn't take the difference into account.

But yes, in the context of this questionnaire, you're right.
